The City was recently awarded a $300,000 grant from the USDA to establish a community garden with the Coalition for Community Gardens and the Community Foundation Tampa Bay. This is a City of Tampa sponsored project and partnership that will expand the network of community gardens in an identified area of the City, supporting two community gardens in the next three years. The program will provide mentoring and education to communities and will work with community members to support a cooperative effort to mentor and train gardeners to cultivate food within their community. The program will also create jobs by establishing Urban Agriculture Coordinator position(s), to manage education programs, provide job training, establish garden markets, and provide administration.
