A column of smoke arises from the Alice Creek Fire in Montana, August 2017

The 2017 wildfire season in Montana burned across more than 1.25 million acres and was likely the largest in the state's history in more than 100 years. Climate warming is increasing the severity of wildfire and amount of area burnt.
