EJSCREEN: Environmental Justice Screening and Mapping Tool
Access environmental and demographic information for user-defined locations in the United States, and compare data for selected locations to the rest of the state, EPA region, or the nation.
EJSCREEN is an environmental justice mapping and screening tool that provides the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with a nationally consistent dataset and approach for combining environmental and demographic indicators. Users identify a geographic area, and then the tool provides demographic and environmental information for the area. All indicators included in the report are publicly available data. EJSCREEN simply displays the information and includes a method for combining environmental and demographic indicators into environmental justice (EJ) indexes.
EJSCREEN includes:
- 12 environmental indicators
- 6 demographic indicators
- 12 EJ indexes
Each EJ index combines demographic indicators with a single environmental indicator. This tool provides a number of capabilities, including:
- Color-coded mapping
- The ability to generate a standard report for a selected area
- Comparisons showing how values for a selected area compare to its state, EPA region, or the nation.
