OceanAdapt

Explore how the distribution of almost 650 marine species—including those of interest to commercial and recreational fishing—have changed over the past 40 years.

The OceanAdapt Web Tool can help managers, scientists, fishermen, fishing communities, and the general public track changes in the distribution of marine species with changing climate and ocean conditions. OceanAdapt provides visual tools and a database to examine whether species distributions are changing, and the direction and pace of change. The site offers data on nearly 650 marine species across all U.S. regions; the data have been collected annually by NOAA Fisheries and others over the last 40 years. The information will be updated annually as new data become available.

OceanAdapt is slated to become part of the new National Climate Indicators System being developed as part of the Third National Climate Assessment to help track and respond to climate impacts across the nation.
