The City is setting a new goal of increasing our recycling diversion rates to 25% by 2030. Waste management may provide a major opportunity for New Orleans to create value and economic activity that is currently not being captured. The City could divert more waste from landfills and possibly develop markets for recyclable goods and local opportunities for businesses focused on the circular economy. Several local businesses are already addressing key areas of opportunity—from glass recycling to composting.
